  • Imperialist propaganda. Here's why...

    MaitreyaNowMaitreyaNow21 時間 前
  • The "Opposition" in Venezuela is not a popular movement led by poor people suffering the most. It is a minority movement led by elites supported by the comfortably well off, far right extremists, private corporations, the US, Shell, ExxonMobil... They can't win through the vastly superior democratic processes that exist compared to the US so with US backing and strategic support including the media that they own (#notadictatorship) they seek to overthrow the democratically elected government and reverse the popular social reforms through undemocratic means. Oliver's rant is no more than uninformed right wing propaganda.

    MaitreyaNowMaitreyaNow21 時間 前
  • Ironic (or telling) that Oliver supports the small minority opposition in Venezuela when they have more in common with the Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol than with the liberal values he claims to espouse. A large proportion of supporters and most leaders are blatantly homophobic, racist, disparaging of the lower classes, anti-democratic, pro-violence. Opposition supporters are responsible for more deaths in "protests" than police and pro-government supporters, some of which have targeted black people with the justification that they are Chavistas. They burned a black man alive for supposedly being pro-government. Google it. Do your own research. There are large grassroots movements that want to expand on social and economic justice policies and inclusive democratic processes that were rolled out by Chavez. The opposition wants to roll these back in a return to the pre-Chavez pro-US oligarchy that enriched themselves and US corporations whilst neglecting and oppressing the people.

    MaitreyaNowMaitreyaNow23 時間 前
  • Oliver mentions 3 US interventions in Latin America. More like 56 in 13 countries mate! Including VENEZUELA! This man is either a useful idiot or an absolute dirtbag or both for spreading this frankly racist and US supremacist BS propaganda. People like him have blood on their hands because they are part of the media mechanism that manufactures consent for wars, coups and sanctions that cause untold suffering and geopolitical consequences. YOU have blood on your hands Oliver! I hope one day the truth becomes a thing in the US and your own grandchildren won't be able to look you in the eyes out of disgust.

    MaitreyaNowMaitreyaNow日 前
  • John Oliver showing true colours. Again. A regurgitation of US propaganda and an appeal to US supremacist racist views concerning the so called third world leaving his comfortable liberal audience unquestioning of this total BS. A video debunking this utter BS is avaialable here but has been censored as age innapropriate and offensive to some viewers despite the most offensive content coming from Oliver himself. Most supporters of Oliver's racist and uninformed rant won't watch this because why question your prejudices and ignorance right? Search "Empire Files debunk Oliver Venezuela" There is no share option as it has been censored by JPworlds despite the only offensive remarks and imagery coming from Oliver himself as mentioned before.

  • Venezuela is just a clusterfuck. It’s also not actually operating with a socialist economy, the private sectors has *increased* in the percentage of the Venezuelan economy it makes up. 64.7% in the late 90s, to closer to 70% now. It’s a socialist country in the same way the USSR or Maoist China were; The ruling party is ostensibly socialist ideologically. Before attacks; Lenin acknowledged that the USSR wasn’t actually socialist following the revolution. I’ve not done the research to know if the state capitalism was intentional by Lenin or if it was whiny farmers wanting to privately own farming businesses that lead to it, all that matters is Stalin then came in and consolidated power in the hands of oligarchs, preventing the actual dictatorship of the proletariat from taking place. Maoist China was a bit more complicated, because the New Democracy implementation was actually hindered by reactionaries who snuck their way into the party. Ultimately anything good done by Mao was dismantled by the capitalist Dengist regime, and some of Mao’s theory is pretty much the only good thing that’s lasted.

Wait, before you tell me, let me guess: The true responsible for the crisis are the US sanctions, even though they only started to hit the economy in 2018, while the actual crisis began as early as 2013? • Yes, for those who do not know, the US was the main promoter of the multiple military dictatorships in Argentina in the last century. Supposedly to prevent socialism from advancing. But during those dictatorships, Argentina acquired debts with the United States, because the military that were in power needed funds to finance the armies, and the United States was its "ally." Later, during the Falklands War, the United States was supposedly obliged to assist Argentina militarily, but it did not do so because that would mean going to war against England, so it completely ignored the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR). This is how the United States shit in Argentina last century. plunging us into violence and debt and stabbing us in the back during a war.

The reason why Venezuela is doing that bad is because of socialism, a Mexican speaking here. “Epic mismanagement” is due to socialism you idiot, that’s why the more you grow government, the less freedom you give the people. “We the people tell the government what to do, it doesn’t tell us” - President Ronald Reagan.

    • People in countries with forms of universal healthcare pay into a pot with their tax revenue (which can be quite significant, especially in places with VAT rates), and then a centralized negotiation system bargains down the price for healthcare that individuals tend to have difficulty doing (like how a union can bargain for benefits better than individual workers can alone when they are easy to divide into thousands of blocs rather than a union and its locals making up 95% of the workers in a given sector), which makes the amount of money necessary to be paid by the people much lower, and when you distribute the final bill among most of the people able to work and their families per person, the amount to be paid is typically a low fraction of their eventual income before taxes in a given year. Australia gets this down to about 3000 dollars per person (USD), which given the median income tends to be work fairly well. Some of these countries still have out of pocket expenses too like Singapore and Netherlands, and the Netherlands still has health insurance companies being your primary conduit.

    • You're talking about soical democracy. Contrary to popular belief, social democracy is not socialism - worker control of the means of production - as social democracy allows for capitalism and private ownership. The Nordic countries - Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland - are go-to models of a socially democratic system in practice. Essentially, social democracy is a capitalist economy under the pretext of a welfare state.
