Immigration Courts: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

America’s dysfunctional immigration court system forces many children to appear in court alone. That’s as ridiculous in real life as it would be on a courtroom television show.

Just to make sure, I confirmed that the court is in Charlotte, not in the middle of nowhere they were showing on the map. It also appears they got the locations of the other cities correct, not just putting the graphic somewhere in the state.

John Oliver army of elite researchers managed find out a single one. I mean maybe it exists but you"d think that it be common as bleeding heart journalist would be on the case 24h to fish out all those instances. All the follow up article on deportees I ever read were all alive and well and trying to immigrate back legally. I'm guessing when they say "They are going to kill me" is a lie for 99% of the cases. Yet I don't recall a single journalist challenging that notion when someone makes a claim like that either.

I am all for legal immigration and would hope most offer some skills our country can use. I suppose you can take the approach that the children will go to school and become middle class tax payers and not drain the system. We have plenty of generational mooches on society already here we have to foot the bill for.

  • yeaaahhh. That SOUNDS all well and good to have a lawyer provided, but it's expensive, not very helpful (trust me, a court appointed lawyer is NOT much improvement over the 2 year old). And is really just kida less useful in these cases as there is nothing to prove here. The lawyer would either advise them to LIE, or get the same result. Sorry, but you can't really he all "I fled the bation to avoid my ex, and no, I never thought to move anywhere else but out the country. And if you want her safe HERE... you might want to rethink your position on the border wall, because they can absolutely follow here here and kill her.

They are known for killing women and children specifically, and will even burn buses full of people if they are in their territory. Her ex was a member of that gang. • Hey Brit Face, lol. Are you a USA citizen? Then you should be on the other side of that fence. Easy to hand out when its not yours. If they don't like their country , like America, they need to change it. Just because you don't like Trump, don't make it tough on our citizens. How much more do we overpopulated the US? Water, sewer, housing. All is already overtaxed. Parents are idiots to drag their kids along. How about put those waiting on a boat for England? Since Americans fled England and scratched out a living in the wild. Over populated, yes we are. Not like Japan. 33 people p sq foot. Sure there's space in the wilderness, but then that's where most people are fleeing. The cities, suburbs, and ghettos are OVER POPULATED and overtaxed (water - not enough clean, sewage- not processed 100% due to to much in flow and not enough capacity.

    kEVN dIXN 223kEVN dIXN 2236 ヶ月 前
    • @kEVN dIXN 223 Ah, so you're only looking at the environmental issue from a purely nationalist perspective. "Fuck everyone who isn't living in my country." No idea how the stuff on body fat and such is even relevant lol.

      Stephen2462Stephen24624 ヶ月 前
    • @Stephen2462 of course it changes population living in USA vs 3rd world country. More food more wages fatter people. Humans need minimum body fat to concieve kids. That goes along with levels of hormones. Yes usa has birth control and that helps.

      kEVN dIXN 223kEVN dIXN 2234 ヶ月 前
    • @kEVN dIXN 223 Yes, I looked, that's how I know you're bullshitting. Immigration isn't going to change the number of people living in the world lol. If that's your concern, then focus on conservation, development and usage of green tech, and better environmental policies, like the ones the Trump administration has been getting rid of.

      Stephen2462Stephen24625 ヶ月 前
    • @Stephen2462 look again Stephen we are reaching a breakpoint. More people not enough housing, food, water, room in schools, room for crops. Just because there are vast areas unpoulated dosent mean the Earth isn't being overtaxed by population, farming, chemicals, mining, drilling, toxic gas releases, excessive methane releases, ect.... Get off the video game and research.

      kEVN dIXN 223kEVN dIXN 2235 ヶ月 前
    • @kEVN dIXN 223 No we are not overpopulated. Our main issue is, as you mentioned, is that too high a proportion of our population are living in crammed cities. The other problems you brought up are side effects of other issues; Scapegoating immigrants is counterproductive.

  • It's very different in the UK. As soon as an immigrant sets foot on UK soil they can claim asylum. Once in the system going through the process they obviously have no right to work so are supported. They get housing, and money for food and clothing etc. They get free legal as well. If they lose they can appeal and retain the same rights. They can continue to appeal all the way to the European court of human rights and we are bound by the decision. If they lose a lot just go on the run , when caught they get deported eventually. I've no stats but a lot just try again. It's a ridiculous process , expensive and pretty traumatic for genuine refugees. Yes there are a lot of fake asylum seekers who make it much harder for the genuine ones. I've no idea what the solution is but it is noteworthy that there are a lot of loan males In camps in Calais from Pakistan and Afghanistan . I can only speak for myself but if I was fleeing a war or life threatening situation I would never leave my family behind. Maybe the answer is we stop creating the situations the people are forced to flee from? Maybe we help them fix the mess we made ?
