  • This is so insane. In Canada these positions are not elected. That is absurd. Coroners are medical doctors with specialized death investigation training, who have been appointed to investigate sudden deaths. There is a difference between Coroners and Pathologists. Pathologists are medical doctors who are experts in disease and injury. Forensic pathologists have further training and are experts in disease and injury that result in sudden death. Pathologists and forensic pathologists are the medical doctors who perform autopsies, when required. Forensic pathologists may also be appointed as coroners to investigate cases of suspicious death. America, get your shit together. In no way is it acceptable to elect someone with no skills to do these jobs.

I forget the towns/county involved But I wanted to know what difference did it make. (The results are no public yet) She lived & died in Idaho and the cause of death was natural. She and her family are from Utah that's why she was buried there.

A lady died at a place included to work at and when the cops showed up they literally said, " Don't think this will be like TV there will be no M.E. a coroner will show up, because medical examiners are fiction". Hinde sight, funding terrifying.

In a very concise, but yet respectfully humorous way, John Oliver has presented the day-to-day horrors and frustrations that Medical Examiners must deal with every day. • I know it's a joke, but it does seem distasteful to think of not wanting this injustice to befall celebrities. Because it already doesn't. This doesn't happen to rich and famous people. Beyonce's autopsy wouldn't be botched and her family would never have to wait longer than absolutely necessary to get answers--even if that meant delaying the cases of people who had died before her.

    Lissa YlisseanLissa Ylisseanヶ月 前
  • Clearly people everywhere deserve a lot better care taken of their remains after they die, than having one of several thousand ( in the U.S. alone ) completely untrained, unqualified, and extremely questionable characters like Shawn Parcells who show the dead zero respect. Make medical schools everywhere incentivize students to become Board Certified Medical Examiners....God knows we need nothing but professionals to handle such important things, like autopsy's to determine how someone was killed. Make being a Medical Examiner a really well paid career, and watch the numbers go up at graduation time.

  • 8:25 Now, I'm no coroner (yet) but I did take a brief forensics course, and while I don't remember the specifics I'm pretty sure one of the assignments was a body found in a burnt out car presented weirdly like a choose-your-own-adventure, and there was _so much_ evidence that can point toward a homicide based only on what started the fire, nevermind any other factors. (If I remember right, that assignment was a homicide pointed to by fabric remnants around the body seemingly a rope, and the fire originating in the trunk with a scorched puddle on the ground below it) So... kinda lost the plot, but "There's no way to know" is just actively wrong and I found it interesting to actually have personal experience/knowledge to prove something like this.

  • Can't believe I'm saying this but this time India beat you to it, we have only Medical Examiner's system and guess what, in almost all homicide cases the doctor performing the autopsy is POST GRADUATE in FORENSIC MEDICINE !! Well the other autopsies are also performed by doctors just they are not postgraduate in that specific field, but they do get their autopsy (forensic) training during their medical school. and when you've been seeing that whole life, A third world country like India keeps qualified people for important stuff as this and the mightiest nation of all, the great America lets Farmers and barbers perform it ?
